Law

Summary: For this assignment, I was tasked with writing an analysis on a crisis in the world. I chose the topic of the refugee crisis. I had to explain the crisis, provide potential solutions, and provide evidence. The purpose was to inform the audience on the refugee crisis and enlighten the readers on how serious the issue is. The solutions also provided ideas of ways the audience can do their part in participating to reduce refugees seeking asylum. This was an individual assignment designed to showcase my ability to identify a national crisis and analyze what the issues are and how they can potentially be reduced. I decided to include a human rights assignment into my e-portfolio because dealing with clients as a lawyer, it is important to understand hardships and to connect to those. The refugee crisis paper was one of my better works that received great feedback. It is important to showcase some of my stronger pieces and pieces I learned a lot and grew as a writer from in my e-portfolio to show my growth.

Reflection: Throughout this assignment I gained a great amount of knowledge. I learned about the refugee crisis and just how large of an issue it is. I found statistics, leading causes, and potential ways to deter it. As for writing skills, I learned how to structure papers in a more organized way. My paper flowed well as my thoughts were organized starting with informing the audience, how governmental agencies are dealing with the crisis. Then I move to analyzing how the governmental agencies are handling the crisis and what they are doing well and what they can improve followed by a wrap up of the purpose of my paper. I not only took away strengthening my skills as a writer, but I became educated on a serious issue in the world today.

Summary: For my case brief, I was tasked with writing a case brief for a legal case on environmental law. The assignment was for my Environmental Law & Policy class. This was only the second case brief I have ever done, but I felt it was important to include in my e-portfolio because briefing cases is going to be a large part of my job as an attorney. The intended audience would be a judge, professor, or client reading a summarized version of the case. This was an individual assignment to showcase my ability to write a case brief. I did not perform as well on my first case-brief as this one, but with feedback I significantly improved in my writing. The case brief above received a high score with few comments on future changes I can make or tips such as knowing what key points to highlight or information acceptable to leave out of the brief.

Reflection: Throughout this assignment, I pushed myself more than I have before on past law-related assignments. The class that assigned my case brief was Environmental law & policy which was an upper level course intended for students nearing the end of undergraduate. The class pushed me to dive into law work more so than before and taught me more terms, regulations, and was set up like a class in law school would be. The case brief can be used as a piece of writing to refer to for future case briefs and a way to reflect on my work to see if I am showing improvement.

Summary: The assignment above is an organizational primer explaining a governmental entity. I chose the UN, which is the abbreviation for United Nations. This was an individual assignment with the purpose of showing the research I have gathered and how well I convey it in an organized, thought out way. The intended audience is whomever is looking to learn a brief rundown of the UN and their purpose alongside with my professor to critique my skills on writing about international law topics. The paper was for my international law organizations class and was the first assignment assigned in the class.

Reflection: Throughout the assignment, I learned about different governmental entities and which intrigued me before picking one to write in depth about. The assignment helped me gain a new perspective that becoming an attorney is not the only interesting field of law. Working with human rights and governmental entities would be a great backup plan that I was surprised would interest me as much as it did. I learned about international law throughout this assignment and if it could be a potential field to get into in the future.
